Caletón Blanco (Haría): how to get there and today's wind
White sand on black rock in northern Haría, near Órzola: shallow, clear pools, ideal for children. No facilities, and the wind rules.
Caletón Blanco is the postcard nobody expects: brilliant white sand lying over black lava, in the north of the island, in the municipality of Haría, just before Órzola. The rock forms a series of shallow pools where the water comes in, warms up and stays still.
That is why island families come here: you can stand up in the pools, the bottom is sand, and children can be in the water without worry. The contrast between white sand, black lava flow and turquoise water is why this place ends up in every photograph.
There is almost nothing in the way of facilities: no lifeguard, no beach bar, little shade. Bring your own water.
Getting there
Follow the northern coast road towards Órzola: Caletón Blanco is on the left just before the village, clearly visible from the road. Park on the gravel pull-ins along the roadside — they fill up in summer and at weekends.
Worth knowing
It faces north-east: when the trade wind is strong you feel it here and the sand flies. It is the right place on calm days, less so on windy ones. Órzola, two minutes away, has the fish restaurants and the ferry to La Graciosa.
