Los Pocillos (Tías): how to get there and today's wind
The quietest kilometre of sand in Puerto del Carmen: room even in high season, shallow water and an afternoon breeze.
Los Pocillos is the long beach of Puerto del Carmen, municipality of Tías, between the restaurant strip and Matagorda. It is wide, sandy and above all long, which is why even in peak months you can find a stretch of sand to yourself — something Playa Grande cannot offer.
The sea shelves gently over clean sand. In the afternoon, as all along this coast, the breeze picks up: come in the morning for flat water, stay if the wind does not bother you.
Getting there
Walk or cycle from the Puerto del Carmen promenade; parking along the avenue. Less than ten minutes by car from the airport — which is why this area is full of hotels.
Good to know
There are sunbeds, showers, bars and the planes on approach overhead, part of the scenery here. For a more sheltered day, nearby Playa Chica; for a walk, carry on towards Matagorda along the promenade.
