Playa de la Cantería (Haría): how to get there and today's wind
The real north, under the Corona volcano: pale sand, big sea and no lifeguard. More for looking at than swimming in.
Playa de la Cantería lies at the island's northern tip, just outside Órzola in the municipality of Haría, beneath the lava flows of the Corona volcano. It is a wide beach of pale sand closed in by dark rock walls: one of the most beautiful places on Lanzarote, and one of the least suited to a swim.
⚠️ The sea here does not forgive. It is fully exposed to the north Atlantic, swell arrives unobstructed and there are strong currents; there is no lifeguard service. On rough days stay at the water's edge and keep children well back.
Getting there
Leave Órzola towards the lighthouse along the track; the last stretch is on foot. A few minutes from the village. There are no bars or facilities: bring water and shade.
Good to know
This is the place for a walk into the wind, for photographs, and for understanding what the north of the island is like. For an easy swim, turn back: Caletón Blanco and the natural pools of Punta Mujeres are a few kilometres away.
