Playa Francesa (La Graciosa): how to get there and today's wind
La Graciosa's sheltered bay below Montaña Amarilla: clear, still water, reached on foot or by bike from Caleta de Sebo.
Playa Francesa is the first large bay you reach when leaving Caleta de Sebo on La Graciosa. It faces Lanzarote, with the Risco de Famara opposite, and is sheltered from the trade wind — which is why the water is usually flat and clear.
Behind it stands Montaña Amarilla, the yellow cone that colours this whole corner of the island. No parasols, no beach bar, no showers: it is a bare beach, and whatever you need, you carry in.
Getting there
Take the ferry from Órzola to Caleta de Sebo, then walk or cycle: about three kilometres of sandy track, a good half hour on foot. Private cars are not used on the island; bikes can be hired at the harbour.
Good to know
Bring water, food and shade: there is nothing along the way, and the return walk is in the same heat. Watch the last ferry — in the afternoon it leaves earlier than people expect.
