Playa Grande (Tías): how to get there and today's wind
Puerto del Carmen's main beach: sand, flags, bars and the promenade at your back. The liveliest on the island.
Playa Grande is the beach of Puerto del Carmen, municipality of Tías — the one everyone simply calls 'la playa'. Wide pale sand, water that shelves gently, and behind it the Avenida de las Playas with its bars, restaurants and shops.
It is the busiest beach on Lanzarote and makes no secret of it: rows of sunbeds, showers, toilets, watersports and people at all hours. In exchange it is the most convenient of all: half the resort can walk here, and you need bring nothing, because everything is already there.
Getting there
On foot from the promenade; parking along the avenue and in the streets behind. Ten minutes by car from the airport.
Good to know
The water is sheltered and usually calm, good for children. The breeze picks up in the afternoon, as all along the south coast. If you want space, walk towards Los Pocillos: five minutes and the crowd halves.
