The figure of the Lanzarote countrywoman, her bond with the land and the accumulated labour of generations of women are the backbone of Campesina, campesina, a contemporary dance piece staged at the Casa Museo del Campesino on Saturday 19 September at 12 noon. Admission is free and open to all audiences until capacity is reached.

The work is conceived, written and directed by Quino Falero. Through movement, music and the visual strength of the staging, it sets up a dialogue between memory and the present day, acknowledging the women who kept farming life and work going on the island.

Dancers Vanessa Medina and Ángeles Padilla perform the piece and are also its choreographers. The original score is by Benito Cabrera, threading the performance between remembrance and contemporary creation.

The venue itself is part of the work. The piece is designed to unfold outside conventional theatre formats, so the architecture of the Casa Museo del Campesino and the midday natural light are treated as essential components of the experience rather than a backdrop.

Practical notes for visitors

There are no tickets and no booking: places go on a first-come basis, so arriving well before noon is advisable. The performance takes place in a setting open to natural light, so a hat, water and sunglasses make sense at a time of year when Lanzarote is still warm. The Casa Museo del Campesino sits in San Bartolomé, near the geographical centre of the island and within easy driving distance of Arrecife, Teguise and Puerto del Carmen; parking in the area fills up quickly at weekends.
