Yaiza puts another 400,000 euros into its schools, and the list of works shows where it really leaked

Yaiza council approved on Thursday the allocation of another 400,000 euros from treasury surpluses to pay for works in the municipality's schools, requested by the school community. Some were done over the summer, others are under way, others are planned.
The list, which says more than the headline
The big figure says little; the list of what is being fixed says everything. Education councillor Silvia Santana names, among others:
• at CEIP Playa Blanca, an access ramp linking two buildings and the repair of the canteen roof, which had water coming through
• at the Las Breñas school, a full refit of two bathrooms
• at the village school in Femés, a shaded area, work on the walls and new floors
• at Uga, a space to meet demand for a school canteen, improvements to the yard, a store room and a new staff bathroom
• at CEIP Yaiza, a bathroom for the infant years
Mayor Óscar Noda also points to work already done around CEIP Uga: accessibility, a pedestrian route and parking spaces.
Why it matters
A roof dripping over the canteen, two bathrooms to rebuild, a village school without a scrap of shade: these are the things nobody cuts a ribbon for, and that a child carries every day of the year. Noda points to the municipality's financial health and says that on schools 'no effort will be spared'.
