Playa Blanca dances its carnival from 4 to 7 March, and is after a €1,200 poster

Yaiza was the missing piece, and now it is in. The Playa Blanca Carnival 2027 has a date and a theme: the dancing runs from Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 March, and the chosen allegory is «Ritmos latinos» — Latin rhythms.
The big night is Saturday the 6th: the parade of mascaritas, floats and drumming and dance troupes, from late afternoon into the small hours.
Meanwhile, a poster is wanted — and paid for
The first act of carnival, though, is not a dance: it is a competition. Yaiza council is looking for the design that will give the festival its face, and is paying €1,200 gross for it — a single prize, to the winner.
The rules are generous: any technique, as long as the work can be printed and reproduced at no more than 65×48 cm. Entrants must be 16 or over. The deadline is Monday 11 January 2027, and the full terms are on yaiza.es.
It is one of the few open calls on the island where a seventeen-year-old with a good idea can walk away with more than a thousand euros. Worth passing on.
«Get your costumes ready in good time»
Yaiza's festivals councillor, Daniel Medina, keeps it practical: «Residents and visitors plan their holidays or days off and get their costumes ready in good time, so now that we have dates and an allegory we are expecting all of you: our carnival always has surprises in store and is a guarantee of a very good time».
How it fits with the rest of the island
With Playa Blanca in, the 2027 carnival map is starting to close up. Puerto del Carmen runs 11 to 14 February with «La magia del circo»; Costa Teguise and the Villa de Teguise, 15 to 21 February; La Graciosa, 4 to 7 March — that is, at the same time as Playa Blanca. Arrecife has its allegory, «Las mil y una noches», but still no dates, and nor do Haría, San Bartolomé and Tinajo.
Shrove Tuesday, remember, falls on 9 February.
