Papagayo is not one beach: it is a string of golden-sand coves inside the Los Ajaches Natural Monument, in the south of the island. It is Lanzarote's most photographed corner and one of the few left unbuilt.

You reach it from Playa Blanca along a dirt track, paying at the barrier.

What it costs and when

3 euros per vehicle. Lanzarote residents are exempt. Everyone else must pay electronically only: a physical debit or credit card, or a card on your phone. No cash.

The car park is open from 9am to 7pm. If you want an empty cove, arrive early: after 11am the spots near the water are gone. There is no shade and few kiosks — bring water and a hat.
