The village of Órzola, at the northern tip of Lanzarote, is preparing for the Fiestas de Santa Rosa de Lima, held from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 August. The programme is run by Haría town council together with the Peña Hendida cultural association.

Monday 17 opens at 09:00 with the decoration of the village. At 11:00, at the Caletón Blanco community centre, a drawing contest and mural painting open to all ages; at midday, traditional games.

The afternoon continues at 17:00 with the truco and envite championship, card games that in the Canaries are more a collective ritual than a pastime. At 20:00 a street parade led by the Los Yaiseros batucada, and at 21:30 the pregón, this year given by the village's young people.

Practical note

Órzola is about forty minutes from Arrecife and parking is limited. On the busiest nights, arrive early or leave the car along the road down to the La Graciosa ferry port.
