Cine Bunuel announces five arthouse titles for September and October

The Cine Buñuel continues its programme through September and October with a selection that pairs recent work by Spanish filmmakers with European and North American productions. The season is backed by the culture department of the Cabildo de Lanzarote y La Graciosa.

Five titles have been announced: Apuntes para una ficción consentida by Ana Serret Ituarte (2025), El sonido de la caída by Mascha Schilinski (2025), Yo no moriré de amor by Marta Matute (2026), Iván & Hadoum by Ian de la Rosa (2026) and Omaha by Cole Webley (2026).

The films come from very different traditions and use very different cinematic languages, but they circle similar ground: memory, identity, family relationships, love, and the difficulty of finding a place of one's own. Most of them have limited commercial distribution, which makes this kind of programming one of the few ways to see them on the island.

Jesús Machín Tavío, culture councillor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote y La Graciosa, said the aim is to "keep offering a diverse, high-quality film programme that allows audiences to discover new perspectives and to understand cinema also as a space for reflection and for meeting others".

Practical notes

Dates and screening times for each film are published by the venue and updated over the course of the two months, so it is worth checking before setting out: arthouse titles often stay on the schedule for only a few days. Films are generally shown in their original language, which makes the programme accessible to non-Spanish speakers depending on the title. The auditorium is not large, so arriving a little early is sensible, particularly for weekend screenings.
