Film acting workshop with Miguel Angel Vivas at El Almacen, 24-26 September

Spanish director, screenwriter and producer Miguel Angel Vivas will lead an intensive acting workshop at the El Almacen cultural centre in Arrecife from 24 to 26 September. The course is organised by the Culture Department of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa and is aimed at actors, actresses and filmmakers.

Registration opens on Tuesday 25 August and the fee is 30 euros. The approach is hands-on: each participant works on a film scene selected in advance and receives individual notes throughout the three days, following the methodology used on professional film sets.

The syllabus covers script analysis and comprehension, character construction, performance in front of the camera with a focus on emotional work and active listening, the direct relationship between actor and director, and practical tools for approaching casting processes with more confidence.

Vivas is among the most active Spanish directors of recent years, working mainly in thriller and drama. His filmography includes Secuestrados, the film that brought him international attention, Extinction, starring Matthew Fox, and later titles such as Tu hijo and Asedio.

Culture councillor Jesus Machin Tavio said the aim is for the island's cultural programme to also create training and growth opportunities for those building a career in the cultural industries, adding that learning directly from a professional with Vivas's experience is an opening for local talent.

Practical notes before you sign up

A three-day intensive leaves little room for homework once it starts: read and memorise the assigned scene beforehand, so that class time goes into rehearsing. Neutral clothing without patterns or logos reads better on camera. El Almacen sits in central Arrecife, where street parking is tight in the middle of the day, so allow extra time. Places in a workshop built around individual feedback are necessarily limited, which makes registering in the opening days the safer bet.
