Six island bands at the second Arrecife en Vivo gala at the Marina

Six Lanzarote bands played at Marina Lanzarote on Saturday for the second Arrecife en Vivo gala. It is the showcase the festival gives to island groups, and it comes before the better-known part: the route of free concerts through the streets of the capital.

Very different registers came through the stage — pop, dub, cumbia and more — which is rather the point of an evening like this: to show that the local scene is not one genre, and that it has enough material to fill a programme.

The gala works as a taster and a selection at once. Those who play here are seen by the audience that will later come back into the street for the festival proper, and for many groups it is the chance of the year to play to a crowd that is not the usual bar crowd.
