Arrecife's municipal nursery is full: 97 places, a waiting list and an extension still to build

Arrecife's Escuela Municipal Infantil has opened the 2026-2027 year with 97 places for children aged 0 to 3, ten of them reserved as usual for children referred by social services. It is already full.

"It has become too small for us"

Education councillor Abigail González, visiting on Friday with deputy mayor Echedey Eugenio, puts it plainly: "We are very pleased to see the centre full of life, but we know it has become too small." Demand keeps rising, so does the waiting list, and extending the building is the council's next goal.

In a town where many parents work shifts in hotels and shops, a nursery place is not an extra: it is what makes going to work possible.

What's new this year

The biggest change is a permanent early-intervention service, the first in the school's history, to spot developmental difficulties early and act when it helps most. The playground surface has also been replaced and the perimeter fence repaired.
