From tomorrow the Island Library gives away a month of workshops: playwriting, origami, comics and two evenings of storytelling

The Cabildo has presented the October programme of the Island Library, and it is worth a proper look: a whole month of workshops and literary evenings, all free. This year's motto is 'An open book, a world to discover'.
Week one
• Monday 5 — the playwriting workshop begins, led by the award-winning dramatist Luis O'Malley.
• Wednesday 7 — the Young Narrators Workshop starts, a space for stage expression coordinated by Cristina Temprano.
• Friday 9 — Estrella Escriña presents her show, within the Palabras al Vuelo festival.
Mid-month: Japan, collage and comics
On the 15th and 16th the library fills with seminars:
• Midori Goto teaches origami, furoshiki (the Japanese art of wrapping in cloth) and calligraphy
• Rosa Vera leads a collage session
• Marcos Fastuca teaches comic character design
Saturday 17: two sessions, two audiences
A double bill on the same day, and a smart choice: first 'Animalario Diverso' for the youngest, then 'Delayed', an evening of storytelling built for adults. Oral storytelling for grown-ups is something almost nobody programmes, and it almost always surprises whoever wanders in.
The last two weeks
• Friday 23 — a literary evening: several authors in conversation with the audience.
• Friday 30 — it closes with dramatised readings performed by actors.
Who is behind it
Ascensión Toledo, who heads the Cabildo's Education Area, thanked the library team for their work. The stated aim of the programme is to bring different generations together: and looking at the calendar — children in the morning, adults in the evening, teenagers in the workshops — that is exactly what has been built.
