October is festival month: Ray Loriga, eleven days of storytelling, fado and experimental music inside the Cueva de los Verdes

If there is one month on Lanzarote when it pays to check the calendar before deciding what to do in the evening, this is it. The Cabildo has unveiled its October programme, and it is made almost entirely of festivals: literature, storytelling, experimental music, fado, theatre and visual arts.
Words
Two big fixtures, one after the other.
• The fourth Lanzarote Literature Festival, bringing Ray Loriga, Berna González-Harbour and Juan Gómez Bárcena to the island.
• The fourteenth edition of 'Palabras al Vuelo', from 8 to 18 October: eleven days of stories, shows, workshops and activities spread across different venues.
Music
• Keroxen Lanzarote, on 22 and 23 October, takes experimental music into the auditorium of the Cueva de los Verdes — playing inside a lava tube is already half the concert. On the bill: Los Sara Fontán and Waq Waq Kingdom & Kalma.
• On 30 October, at El Almacén, Soraya Cardoso performs as part of the Canary Islands Fado Festival.
• The month also includes several Canarian folk performances.
Cinema, film by film
The Cine Buñuel, at El Almacén, gives October over to auteur cinema:
• 14 and 15 — Iván & Hadoum, by Ian de la Rosa
• 17 — the Tour Festivalito
• 21 and 22 — Omaha, by Cole Webley
• 29 — Volcania, vida en Marte, by JuanMa V. Betancort
Add the screening of the documentary Strange Goodbye, within Architecture Week, and on 29 October Cine Juventud Lanzarote brings Soy Nevenka, by Icíar Bollaín, to the Multicines Atlántida.
Visual arts
El Almacén opens its new exhibition from 8 October.
How to choose
Laid out together, these are four weeks with something on almost every day, and plenty of overlaps. If you have to pick: Keroxen at the Cueva de los Verdes is the experience you cannot have anywhere else, Palabras al Vuelo is the one that works best with children, and Soraya Cardoso's fado closes the month in the way a late-October evening deserves.
