A trans man and his workmate in an Almería greenhouse: the Berlinale-winning film reaches Arrecife for three euros

His name is Iván, he is a trans man and he works in a greenhouse in Almería. Her name is Hadoum, she is Moroccan-Spanish and works in the same greenhouse. They get together. Then Iván gets the promotion he had been waiting for, and that is where the film begins.
It is Iván & Hadoum, by Ian de la Rosa, at the Cine Buñuel on 14 and 15 October. Three euros.
What it won
The Teddy Award for best feature at the fortieth edition of the Berlinale's prizes for LGBTIQ+ cinema. At the Málaga Festival it took the Special Jury Prize and best screenplay.
In other words: this is not a worthy film let in out of politeness. It is well written, and two separate juries said so.
What it is really about
The line going round is «a contemporary, queer Romeo and Juliet», and it works, but it tells half the story. The other half is the greenhouse: work under plastic, the pecking order, who moves up a rung and who stays below. The film places love and identity inside a very concrete inequality, and never separates them.
Starring Silver Chicón and Herminia Loh.
