Arrecife's old Municipal Fish Market to become a food hall

The Canary Islands Ministry of Tourism has announced the rehabilitation of the Municipal Fish Market of Arrecife, which will become a food hall by the sea. The work is funded with 466,601 euros and begins in September.
The plan was presented by minister Jéssica de León alongside the city's mayor, Yonathan de León. The stated aim is to recover a historic building long left unused and, through it, revive the centre of Arrecife.
It is not an isolated move: the package also includes improvements to the old Muelle Comercial and the restoration of the Charco de San Ginés waterfall, designed by César Manrique.
The context
Arrecife has spent years watching its centre lose trade to the coastal resorts. Bringing the old fish market back into use, at a point where the city meets the water, addresses exactly that.
