Yaiza town council has published its cultural and festive programme for August, combining family activities, winemaking tradition and popular celebrations.

For children, the culture department has arranged a series of free craft workshops for ages 5 and up. The announced themes are Colgante Marinero and Surfeando Mi Nombre, running from 10:30 to 12:30.

The month also includes the traditional grape harvest in La Geria and the Fiestas de Los Remedios, the municipality's patron-saint celebrations.

Worth a look even without children

Yaiza is the municipality that holds Playa Blanca, La Geria and Timanfaya together — three different Lanzarotes. Its summer listings are one of the most direct ways to see how the island talks about itself when it isn't addressing visitors: workshops run in Spanish, the festivities are neighbourhood affairs, and entry is almost always free.
