Two hundred artists from three continents: El Mundo en Lanzarote closes on Sunday

Until Sunday 16 August Lanzarote hosts the third edition of the El Mundo en Lanzarote International Performing Arts Festival, bringing more than two hundred artists to the island across music, dance and theatre. Performances take place at various venues in Arrecife and Teguise, with free admission.
The international line-up features the Song and Dance Ensemble Raciborzanie from Poland, Compañía Raíces of Tecnológico de Monterrey from Mexico, and Paraguay Rekove. Alongside them stand the island's own: the Parranda Marinera de Buches and the Agrupación Cultural Musical Güerma.
Several local companies complete the programme and show how mixed today's Lanzarote is: Soy Colombia by Acciones Unidas, Misterios de China, Raqsat Hayati, Samira Rif, Delirio Habanero and D&M Teatro.
Why it is worth going
This is not the usual folklore show staged for tourists. The format puts groups from the other side of the world on the same stage as neighbourhood associations, in front of a largely local audience. For residents it is a chance to see traditions that reached Lanzarote with the people who carry them.
