The Cine Bunuel programme continues into the autumn. For September and October the Culture Department of the Cabildo de Lanzarote y La Graciosa has put together a new line-up of five films and ten screenings, aimed at keeping contemporary cinema that rarely reaches commercial venues within reach of island audiences.

The selection pairs recent work by Spanish filmmakers with European and American productions. The titles are Apuntes para una ficcion consentida by Ana Serret Ituarte (2025), El sonido de la caida by Mascha Schilinski (2025), Yo no morire de amor by Marta Matute (2026), Ivan & Hadoum by Ian de la Rosa (2026) and Omaha by Cole Webley (2026).

The five films differ widely in style and origin, yet they share recurring concerns: memory, identity, family ties, love and the struggle to find a place of one's own. The emphasis is clearly on auteur cinema rather than mainstream releases.

The Cabildo's culture councillor, Jesus Machin Tavio, notes that "the Cine Bunuel has established itself as a stable space in Lanzarote for films that often fall outside the more commercial circuits", adding that the aim is "to keep offering a diverse, quality programme that lets audiences discover new perspectives and understand cinema as a space for reflection and for meeting others".

Making the most of the season

Ten screenings for five films means each title runs on more than one date, which helps if you work shifts or live at the other end of the island: missing one showing does not mean waiting for the next cycle. Exact dates and times are listed in the Cine Bunuel programme. Three of the five titles are 2026 productions, so much of the season arrives on Lanzarote close to release, and screenings of this kind are generally in the original language with subtitles.
