'Fusion': Conciertos Hablados returns to Arrecife on Thursday 3 September, 7.30pm

The Conciertos Hablados series returns to Arrecife on Thursday 3 September at 7.30pm at the Casa de la Cultura Agustin de la Hoz, with an evening titled Fusion. Admission is free until the venue reaches capacity.

Two long-established performers from La Palma take the stage: Jose Eduardo Martin on vocals and Carlos Martin on guitar. Their set is built as a musical conversation between La Palma and Lanzarote, moving between the traditional repertoires of the two islands.

The evening is hosted by Ciro Corujo, the Lanzarote singer and researcher who promotes the series together with the culture department of Arrecife's town hall. Corujo introduces and steers the session and also sings, pausing between pieces so the musicians can explain where each song comes from and what it has meant in their own lives.

Culture councillor Abigail Gonzalez said the town hall continues to back formats that combine music and the spoken word as a way of bringing the cultural wealth of the archipelago closer to residents, letting audiences hear the background behind each performance.

There is no booking system, so seats go on a first-come basis: arriving around twenty minutes early is sensible. The Casa de la Cultura sits in central Arrecife, a short walk from the Charco de San Gines, where evening parking is tight; the car parks near the port are the easier option. The music and the talk are in Spanish, but the repertoire itself, sung Canarian folk with guitar and voice, needs no translation, and it is one of the few chances on the island to hear it in a concert hall rather than at a fiesta.
