Lanzarote Film Festival: 247 entries for its sixteenth edition

The Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote has closed entries for its sixteenth edition with 247 works submitted: 215 international features and 32 Canarian short films. Screenings and events run from 19 to 29 November.

The figure says something about the standing the festival has reached: it was born and remains on an island of a hundred and fifty thousand people, and it draws entries from well beyond the archipelago. The separate strand for Canarian shorts keeps the home door open — that is where you see what is actually being filmed in the islands.

For this edition the organising association, Tenique Cultural, has tightened its entry system. The stated aim is a more rigorous, more specialised selection: fewer films on the programme, better chosen.
