La27 is born, Arrecife's cinema podcast, recorded in the century-old Sociedad Democracia

It is called La27, it is a cinema podcast, and the name has a story: Fabio Cabrera and Benji Machín met thirteen years ago sharing room number twenty-seven. From that friendship comes the project, launched in Arrecife on Wednesday 23 September.

Where it is recorded

The century-old Sociedad Democracia has lent its premises free of charge for the recordings, and its president, Luis Miranda, joined the pair at the launch. It is a detail worth more than it looks: that same society lived through a century of Arrecife's social life, and now hosts something that looks nothing like it.

Who does what

Benji Machín brings the cinephile's eye — reviews he already published on social media as DulcesoSaladas — and audiovisual experience. Fabio Cabrera holds the other end: entertainment, the pleasure of the film. Christopher Bernal completes the team on direction and editing, giving visual shape to the conversations.

The stated aim is to build community: turning cinema into a conversation to share rather than a verdict handed down. On an island where the cinemas can be counted on one hand, that is no small thing.
