A surf film contest with 2,500 euros in prizes, screened in Tinajo: entries open until April

At La Santa there is El Quemao, a wave European surfers know by heart and that every winter separates those who can from those who think they can. The Lanzarote Quemao Class grew up around that wave, and out of that competition's laboratory — the QuemaoHub — came something less predictable: a film showcase.

It is called NASAS, it is in its fourth edition, and entries for 2027 are open.

Dates and prizes

Work can be submitted until 10 April 2027. The selected films are screened on Friday 16 April 2027 at 8pm, at the Teatro Municipal in Tinajo.

There are three categories, all with cash prizes:

• International: 1,000 euros for the best film.
• Regional: 1,000 euros for creators resident in the Canary Islands.
• Young Canarian: 500 euros for entrants under 25.

What kind of film

Surf and bodyboard told as stories, not as clips. The last edition screened pieces shot in Greenland, Mexico and Indonesia: the showcase does not ask you to film in Lanzarote, it asks you to film well.

How to enter

The full rules and the entry form are at quemaoclass.com/nasas. The project is backed by the Cabildo de Lanzarote and Tinajo town hall, with the Canary Islands Government and the Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo.

If you own a camera and spend your winters on the Tinajo coast, you have seven and a half months. That is more than enough.
