A week to look at the island through an architect's eyes: the programme, 3 to 9 October

The Lanzarote College of Architects (COALZ) opens its Architecture Week from Saturday 3 to Friday 9 October. This year's theme is 'Inhabited ecosystems. From the city to the rural world', and the choice already says where the programme is looking: not at monuments, but at how people live in places.
Saturday 3: walking the sea's edge
At 10.30am, 'Arrecife litoral' sets off along the seafront from La Puntilla to El Reducto. Two different trades lead it, telling the same street: architect Luis Díaz Feria and archaeologist Jesús Cáceres. One explains how the city was built, the other what lay underneath before.
Tuesday 6: country children and their own place
A morning workshop at the village school CEIP Tao: it is called 'The place we inhabit', run by Guayarmina Rijo Molina, and it invites the pupils to see their own village as something somebody designed — and could have designed differently.
Wednesday 7 and Friday 9: the two lectures
• Wednesday 7, 7pm — Juan Palop-Casado on landscape design as sustainable infrastructure: the idea that greenery and terrain are not decoration but plant, like drains and roads.
• Friday 9, 6.30pm — Óscar Miguel Ares on transforming places with very little. On an island where every material arrives by ship, that is anything but theoretical.
Thursday 8: the photography competition
'Límites difusos' — blurred boundaries — is presented, with the result to be announced on World Town Planning Day.
The closing
After Ares speaks on Friday, the documentary short Strange Goodbye is screened, introduced by curators Ander Bados and Miguel Ramón.
