When you can no longer tell what is real: a workshop on artificial intelligence at the Manrique Foundation on Thursday 8

The César Manrique Foundation is bringing to the island a workshop on something that concerns anyone who looks at a screen: generative artificial intelligence and images. It is run by the collective United Unknown, on Thursday 8 October from 6pm to 9pm, in the José Saramago room at La Plazuela, Arrecife.
What it covers
How these technologies are changing the way images and editing are made, with practical demonstrations rather than theory. And the uncomfortable question: it is increasingly hard to tell what is genuinely real, and that is not only a problem for people who work with images.
The session includes a presentation of work made with these tools and an introduction to multimodal models — the ones that understand instructions given as text and images together.
Why it is worth it
There is a lot of talk about this and not much understanding. Three hours with people who use these tools professionally are worth more than a month of alarmed headlines: you see what they actually do, where they fail, and which of the images passing in front of you every day might never have existed.
