Saturday in Arrecife, storytelling from morning to night: workshops, baby tales and stories for adults

A whole Saturday of people telling stories out loud, from morning until night, at the Centro Cívico in Arrecife. This is Palabras al Vuelo, and on Saturday 10 October it reaches the capital.
Morning: learning
Pepito Mateo runs a workshop on storytelling, and works on something almost nobody teaches: the physical presence of the teller. Not the words — the body.
Pablo Albo handles the craft that comes before: how characters emerge from a blank page.
In parallel, for the smallest, Isabel Bolívar brings her musical bebecuentos: families walk through an African jungle made of sound. This is the part where the children actually fall silent.
Afternoon: families
Four storytellers together for Planeta Cuento, built for grown-ups and children in the same room. Among them Simone Negrín and Estrella Escriña.
Night: adults only
To close, tales for an adult audience. This is the part that surprises anyone who thinks oral storytelling is nursery business: by the end of the day the register changes entirely.
Who is behind it
Run by the Trib-Arte association, with Cultura Arrecife and the Cabildo's backing. The culture councillor, Abigail González, sums the day up as bringing different literary offerings closer, with activities for every age.
Saturday 10 October — Centro Cívico, Arrecife. The programme covers morning, afternoon and evening.
It is the city stop of a festival touring the island this week: storytellers from abroad, in squares and libraries, practising the oldest trade there is.
