On Friday they stopped an eviction. Today the Arrecife park is open to everyone, all day

Exactly one week of camping, six open assemblies and, on Friday, an eviction stopped. Today the housing assembly moves from the tents to a day open to everyone, at the Parque José Ramírez Cerdá in Arrecife: from the morning, with cultural activities all day.
What they have done in seven days
They began with tents under Manrique's pergolas and have not moved since. Six open assemblies, one a day. And on Friday the most concrete thing of all: they peacefully halted an eviction, standing with a family and relying on existing law.
The sentence they use to explain it is a dry one: «Nobody should have to face losing their home alone».
Who is there
It is a non-party, horizontal assembly — no flags, nobody speaking for everyone. There are doctors and nurses, lawyers, teachers. And there are local shopkeepers, who over these days have brought food or lent whatever was needed.
What they are asking for
- Affordable rents, against today's prices.
- A halt to evictions without a decent housing alternative.
- Coordination between institutions, and a channel for dialogue that does not currently exist.
- Respect for the right to protest peacefully.
Today
Sunday 11 October, from the morning — Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, Arrecife.
Cultural activities all day, free, come and go as you like.
It is the park where people in Arrecife spend their Sunday anyway. Today, passing through, you can also stop.
