Four exhibitions at El Almacen in Arrecife, guided tours on 8 and 12 September

The El Almacen cultural centre in Arrecife is holding four very different shows over the summer: two painting exhibitions, a video installation and an art installation. Together they make up a short but varied route, moving from the painted human figure to a room taken over by colour and light.

Identidad, by Will Encarnacion, gathers a project the artist has been developing for several years, examining the human figure as an expression of identity from a critical standpoint. Next to it, Antitematica by Juan Arranz brings together paintings linked to contemporary new figuration, works that claim creative freedom and curiosity as the driving force of the artistic process rather than a single unifying theme.

The video installation Arqueologia del ciclo by Atchen Pounapal combines image, sound and objects to reflect on time, repetition and the permanence of the four natural elements: earth, water, air and fire. The fourth piece is Sshh, no despierten a los volcanes! by Laura Lopez Balza, a luminous, highly coloured reading of the light, vegetation and mineral energy of Lanzarote's volcanoes.

A programme of guided tours led by David Machado accompanies the four shows on 8 and 12 September. All tours are free and open to the public until capacity is reached, so arriving early is advisable.

Planning your visit

All four works are housed in the same building, so the guided tour runs as a single route with no need to move between venues. It is a practical option during the hottest hours of the day, and it pairs well with a walk around central Arrecife, the harbour area and the old town. Drivers should park in the town centre car parks and cover the last stretch on foot, as the streets around the cultural centre are pedestrianised.
