Yaiza pays €124,750 to 117 students: €1,200 for those studying off the island

Yaiza town hall on Monday paid €124,750 in transport grants to 117 students in university and higher vocational courses for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Who gets what

The 98 university students attending in person off Lanzarote receive €1,200. University students on the island, distance or online, get €350. For higher vocational courses: €500 off the island, €300 on it.

"University students away from Lanzarote used to get €900 and we decided to raise it to €1,200, understanding the effort families make to support their children," says mayor Óscar Noda. The grant for vocational students off the island also rose by €150.

For a young person from Yaiza, studying in Las Palmas, Tenerife or mainland Spain means rent, flights and a whole life paid for elsewhere: €1,200 won't cover it, but it is one month's rent less. The final list with amounts is on the town hall website, yaiza.es.
