A year without Antonio Corujo: on 1 October his family sings 'Recuerdos del Jable'

On 24 September 2025 Antonio Corujo died — a barber by trade and one of the great champions of the coplas of the poet Víctor Fernández Gopar. A year on, the Cabildo is dedicating Recuerdos del Jable to him on Thursday 1 October at 8pm, at the El Salinero theatre in Arrecife — the theatre named after the very poet whose verses he sang.

Who will be on stage

The family, nearly all of it: Ciro, Cirito, Pancho, Toñín, Domi, Vicente, Néstor Castro and Domingo Corujo Tejera — sons, grandsons, his brother and nephews. Guests include Dionisio Rodríguez, Fabiola Socas and Domingo "El Colorao".

It is more than a concert. The show is built on a researched script and previously unseen images: singing, timple and lapas carry the story of his life. "Antonio Corujo is part of Lanzarote's cultural memory," said Cabildo president Oswaldo Betancort; culture councillor Jesús Machín Tavío added that it will be a chance to hear his family's voices and recover documents of great value.

Corujo was named Hijo Predilecto de Lanzarote in 2024.
